Pick-up in Matera °20-min drive° First Stop: Altamura (1.5 hour) A city of ancient palaces, churches and cloisters, Altamura is known throughout Italy, and beyond, for its very famous bread: cooked in wood-fired ovens and prepared according to ancient tradition, it has a taste and aroma that are not easily forgotten, so much so that it became the first baked product in Europe to obtain the DOP mark. During this walking tour you will be able to admire the extraordinary artistic and cultural heritage that characterizes Altamura: its characteristic alleys still reveal their medieval imprint. In this same area you will be able to see the splendid Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, built in Romanesque and Gothic style in 1254 at the behest of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia.
